This workshop will give you an overview of the legal basis for fixed-term employment contracts for academic staff at universities and research institutions. Employment contracts of academic staff are concluded on the basis of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz. Here, the 12-year maximum fixed-term limit must be observed for positions financed by the university. The workshop will explain how this is calculated and how contract extensions due to childcare or parental leave are taken into account.
However, many academic staff are also employed in positions financed by third-party funds at the university. In this case, it is not the maximum term limit of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz that is important, but rather the availability of corresponding third-party funding for a specific task and duration of a project. The regulations that apply here and the effects on the maximum term limit will be examined in detail in the workshop.

Requirements
