Category:
  • Workshop
Target group:
  • Doctoral candidates

Language: English.

In this workshop, you will learn the basics of Data Science in Python, including how to handle, manipulate, and visualize large datasets, as well as gain an understanding of the fundamental concepts behind the most common Machine Learning techniques. These include clustering, regression, dimensionality reduction, and object classification. The course will introduce you to powerful third-party Python packages, as well as the mathematical concepts underlying the aforementioned Machine Learning techniques. You will learn how to prepare input data, apply algorithms, and interpret the output. By the end of the course, you will be able to apply these algorithms to your own research data.

Contents

  • Handling and manipulation of large Datasets
  • Visualization
  • Object classification
  • Regression
  • Clustering of data and dimensionality reduction

Methods

Short blocks of theory alternate with code examples and tasks, so that what has been learnt can be processed in the best possible way.

Prerequisites

This workshop targets everyone who already has some basic knowledge of the Python programming language and its syntax, and now wants to work efficiently with large amounts of data. You should feel comfortable writing your own small programs for simple applications, in order to fully benefit from this course.

To participate, you will need a laptop/PC with a camera, microphone and internet access. The Zoom platform as well as other tools will be used during the workshop and you will receive the link to the online platform a few days prior to the event.
Additional Terms of Use: With your registration, you accept the use of specified platforms/tools and the possibly necessary provision of specified data (name and email address). Additionally, the guarantee of the technical requirements is made by the participants themselves.
