On this introductory day to the certificate program "Designing and Managing Research Projects" (EMF) you will reflect on the significance of research funding for your scientific career and work out some the basics of third-party-funded projects in terms of planning, application and implementation.
- Reflection on career goals: You will get to know your peers in small groups and discuss your current scientific career and future plans.
- Developing a project idea: Based on your scientific goals, you will develop first project ideas and link these with your career goals.
- Funding institutions and their criteria: You will get an overview of the basics, mechanisms and major players of German science as well as funding programs and their criteria.
- Project implementation: Aspect of the topics "Staff recruitment and management" and "Communication in third-party-funded projects" are dealt with in exercises.
Qualification Outcomes
After the workshop, you will be able to
- Use the basics for planning, application and implementation of research funding for your own research goals.
- recognize the influence of your planned funding project and its funders to your scientific career.

Requirements
To participate in the online event you need a PC/laptop with a current browser (recommended: Chrome or Firefox) as well as a headset (or speakers and microphone), a webcam plus a stable Internet connection.

Lecturer:
Dr. Beate Scholz
Dr. Scholz works internationally as a strategy consultant, trainer, facilitator and coach at universities and research institutions. Her focus is on the development and promotion of academic careers, individual and institutional priorities in research as well as preparation for reviews and selection procedures. She previously worked at the German Research Foundation (DFG) as head of the Scientific Careers and Early Career Development department, where she developed strategies and programs to promote scientific careers.
