EMF: Leadership for young leaders

Leading others is both a privilege and an art that can be learned and perfected. In an academic context, it is also often an additional task that is becoming increasingly important and must be performed alongside the core business of research and teaching. This is an enormous challenge, especially for junior professors or first-time professors. In order to meet this challenge with confidence and efficiency, this workshop offers theoretical leadership models and practical exercises. Participants will explore the expectations of the role of a leader and gain an overview of the various tasks associated with the leadership role. 

The workshop encourages self-reflection and allows participants to apply their insights through role-play and other interactive activities. It covers various aspects of leadership, including leadership roles, values-based leadership, situational leadership, delegation, personality types and leadership styles, and basic communication skills for leaders.

Qualification Outcomes

Participants have reflected on their personal leadership values. Participants are prepared for their new role as a manager and know the tasks and expectations associated with the role. Participants know the special features of leadership in an academic context. Participants are familiar with the situational leadership model and can use it for employee-oriented leadership in particular. Participants are aware of which personality preferences influence their leadership behavior, have identified areas for development and have developed ideas for appropriate implementation. Participants know the basics of non-violent communication and are familiar with conversation techniques that allow them to communicate confidently, especially in difficult situations.

• Situational leadership (Hersey/Blanchard) and its relevance for supervision & delegation
• How our personality influences leadership behavior: personality model according to Riemann /Thomann

Requirements

To participate, you will need a laptop/PC with a camera, microphone and internet access. The Zoom platform  will be used during the workshop and you will receive the link to the online platform a few days prior to the event.
