This workshop shows you reliable ways to develop a doctoral project. Strong strategies and knowledge of stabilising structures will give you confidence for your first steps in an unfamiliar field of research. You will learn about tools for the effective preparation of an exposé for a doctoral project, work directly on your project ideas and receive initial feedback. Contents are: Strategies for developing the research objective, the theoretical framework and the research design; project planning; structure of an exposé.

Methods
- Partner or group work for external and self-diagnosis of behavior patterns,
- interactive lecture sequences to convey information by the trainer,
- Guided practice phases to implement the input on their own project,
- Presentation of the participants' work results to the group,
- guided reflections and peer feedback,
- Securing results with contemporary (digital) tools.
Coaching
Following the workshop, each participant will be offered an individual coaching session lasting 60 minutes. The dates will be agreed with the trainer and will take place between 07.12.2024 and 31.03.2025.
The counselling service offers you the opportunity to enter into a feedback process with an experienced academic editor & writing coach to work intensively on your texts. The research proposal can be submitted in advance for feedback. You will receive comments on the text and we can discuss revision strategies in an online session. The counselling can refer to German and English texts and can take place in German or English.
Requirements
To participate, you will need a laptop/PC with a camera, microphone and internet access. The platform BigBlueButton will be used during the workshop and you will receive the link to the online platform a few days prior to the event.

Lecturer:
Dr Beate Richter
Dr Beate Richter is the founder of the Wissenschaftliche Schreibwerkstatt Berlin, where she has been offering an interdisciplinary range of writing workshops, coaching and editing services for academics and students since 2003. As an experienced trainer, interested counsellor and attentive editor, she accompanies authors through all phases of a research project in order to reflect on work processes, reduce writing hurdles and develop sustainable routines for motivated and effective text production.
After studying physics, philosophy and literature, she completed a doctorate in philosophy of education. She has been a lecturer at Freie Universität Berlin since 2016 and taught scientific working techniques, philosophy of science and applied ethics at Steinbeis University Berlin for 13 years.
