Workshop: Nested markets and the question of trade. Modes, potentials and drawbacks of promoting sustainable agriculture in crisis.
The workshop “Nested markets and the question of trade” suggests that agroecological markets tend to be nested (territorial) markets, which thrive on (newly established) connections of stakeholders and follow a different logic and management approach than conventional, global agricultural markets. However, it seems difficult to scale these qualities and conditions in the context of standards and the governance of the global food system. The workshop aims to discuss recommendations for alternatives to the current normative and institutional parameters around which trade is structured and legitimized. It is to provide an outlook on potentials and hindrances of promoting agroecological nested markets in the context of the reconfiguration of trade regimes.
