How do you turn an idea into a fully-fledged research grant? This workshop will take you through the process of developing your idea into a project, finding suitable funding, and preparing a well-structured proposal. Teaching formats include presentations, individual, partner and group work, and recurring rounds of feedback.
Qualification Outcomes
- Finding research funding
- Reading and understanding funding calls
- Developing a project: work programme, finances etc.
- Writing funding proposals: structure, style, purpose
- Cross-cutting topics: diversity, data management, data protection, ethics
Methods
Trainer input, individual and group exercises, group discussions, presentation, reflection, feedback
Requirements
Participants have fully or nearly completed their PhD phase and now have an idea for a postdoc research project, for which they wish to write a grant proposal.
If you’ve already got a research project in mind, it’s good to have a written abstract on hand (max. 0.75 pages).

Lecturers:
Dr. Nina Felgen
Dr Nina Felgen (M.Sc.) is a specialist at the research support of the University of Kassel for national funding, including the Hessian LOEWE initiative. She advised on numerous DFG project proposals as well as several large coordinated projects and supports scientists with various questions relating to the application process for third-party funded projects and the acquisition of research grants. Before working at the research support she was a doctoral researcher at the Institut für Nanostrukturtechnologie und Analytik (INA), receiving her doctorate in the field of Technical Physics at University of Kassel, and, as manager of the scientific center CINSaT, coordinated successfully the grant application for the continuation of the center."
Dr. Anna Bauer
Dr. phil. Anna Bauer (M.A., MPA, Dipl. DaF) is a fulltime adviser at University Kassel’s research office. Anna supported numerous projects from initial idea to grant stage with various national funding organisations and advises mainly on national and university-internal funding. Prior to that, she worked as a researcher in two DFG projects at the University of Marburg and was a doctoral researcher at the Universities of Göttingen and Marburg, where she received her PhD in Historical Linguistics. Her position as DAAD Lecturer for New Zealand in Auckland entailed funding advising for researchers and students regarding support from the DAAD and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
