Researchers and project managers are caught between the unpredictability and freedom that are the essence of successful research and the business requirements of effective management. The aim of this workshop is therefore to introduce young researchers to the project management of externally funded projects and at the same time to train the methodological flexibility necessary for the successful realisation of research projects.
The background for the training is provided by the fictitious project Pricing 4.0, to which the participants are introduced after a brief overview of the project life cycle:
‘The Institute for the Study of the IMPOSSIBLE has received funding from the European Commission for the Pricing 4.0 research project. The key data of this project are: 7 project partners, budget 4.5 million euros, funding 3 million euros, duration 48 months, project objective...’
After this introduction, the participants experience excerpts from the implementation of this project from the perspective of a project manager and develop constructive solutions for the situations in the project against the background of a specific topic. In addition, participants have the opportunity to contribute their own experiences and project situations to the workshop
Qualification Outcomes
- Session 1: Projects and project plans: essential project management tools, planning a kick-off meeting for the fictitious Pricing 4.0 project
- Session 2: Clarifying tasks and goals, organising work with the Scrum task board
- Session 3: Resistance, risks and promoters
- Session 4: Conflict resolution, monitoring and controlling
Methods
The methodology of this training is based on the trainer's experience with a simulation game to introduce project management in the application and implementation of European research and development projects.
The necessary theoretical input is developed in accompanying impulse lectures or instructional discussions, whereby the use of props and visualisations supports variety and positive emotional connections.
Requirements
To participate, you will need a laptop/PC with a camera, microphone and internet access. The Zoom platform will be used during the workshop and you will receive the link to the online platform a few days prior to the event.
